Climate anxiety- what exactly is it?
The Netflix hit "Don't look up" has shown in a satirical way what consequences climate change can have if we don't take scientists seriously. Climate fear is a new term that is often used nowadays. But one should be careful with the term "climate fear".
It is not a medical condition or a psychiatric diagnosis such as anxiety disorder or depression, but a real fear of an incoming threat.

Of course, it is difficult to deal with this situation, because the more one deals with it, the more hopeless the situation seems. Those affected by climate fear are therefore mainly professionals who deal with it intensively, for example climate researchers, environmental activists, but also professionals who actively experience climate change, such as farmers. The following 5 tips tell you what you can do against climate fear:
Exchange with others
As with many other fears, know that you are not alone. Many people suffer from climate fear. The Insa opinion research institute found that 42 percent of Germans see climate change as a threat. On social media, you can find more sufferers under the hashtags #ecoanxiety and #climateanxiety. Climate anxiety and climate depression are also widespread terms.

Accepting the fear
Climate fear is a real problem. Instead of trying to get rid of the fear as quickly as possible and fighting it with all means, it is important to admit the fear to oneself. This also means being careful with yourself and practicing self-care. The best way to do this is to ask yourself, "What would I advise a good friend to do?"
Seeing the crisis as an opportunity

Overcoming stressful life crises leads to a new zest for life in many people. New interests and goals emerge. New priorities in life can emerge, such as maintaining and intensifying social contacts. Taking enough time for hobbies and appointments can be a good balance to climate anxiety.
Become active yourself
What is the best way to get rid of a fear? By facing it. By becoming active for climate protection, you get a feeling of control over the climate fear, which can be beneficial for overcoming fear. There are many climate protection initiatives where you can meet like-minded people.

Have fun being active
When "climate anxiety" no longer paralyzes you, the resulting motivation can even bring you joy. In this way, you can turn your weaknesses into strengths. Climate protection should not only be fun, but must be enjoyable. Get to know your own limits and try not to get carried away with climate protection.
